About the photographer

Peter W. Aldoretta

After 27 rewarding years, I retired from the practice of neonatology at the end of 2020. In my previous life, my photography mostly involved capturing the magical moments of my two captivating (and now grown) daughters. But shortly before my retirement, with the encouragement of a close friend, fellow physician, and gifted amateur photographer (Paul Pflueger), I took up the rewarding and challenging hobby of landscape astrophotography. He helped me tremendously with the steep learning curve, and it has been (and continues to be) an amazing journey.

I have had the great fortune of living in western Colorado since 2006. With access to high desert, red rock, and alpine landscapes, and with the stunning Colorado National Monument in my backyard, the opportunities are nearly limitless. While I enjoy photographing landscapes both by day and night, I find the night shoots particularly rewarding. At night, even familiar, highly photographed landscapes can take on a completely different and ethereal appearance. The added benefit is quiet solitude under the endless stars.

Another close friend, after seeing some of my photos, dryly remarked: "Beautiful. But now what are you going to do with it?"  So, at the urging of my daughters, and my wife's irrepressible posse, I decided to put my work up on this website. I hope you find it enjoyable. Should you be interested in a high resolution print, I can be contacted by email and can get you a quote for the format of your choice. If it turns out that there is a demand, in future I may set up the option to purchase prints on this site directly.
